On Being Presbyterian

 by Professor Sean Michael Lucas
Foyer Room 1

In his book, "On Being Presbyterian," Professor Sean Michael Lucas suggests that being Presbyterian means embracing distinctive  beliefs, practices, and stories as one's own. As new members, church officers, and potential Presbyterians explore beliefs such as God as king over all of life, practices such as Presbyterian Church government, and stories such as the founding of the PCA, they will understand and move to embrace this way of being Christian. Written in a non-technical style, "On Being Presbyterian" is a unique resource for assimilating and equipping believers.

Christ-Centered Worship

 by Bryan Chapell
Taught by Michael Hart in the Foyer Room 2

The church's worship has always been shaped by its understanding of the gospel. Here Bryan Chapell provides chruches with a Christ-centered understanding of worship to enable them to transcend the traditional/contemporary worship debate and unite in ministry and mission priorities. Churches will learn how to shape their worship based on Christ's ministry to and through them and will be challenged to let the gospel shape every element of their corporate worship.

The Transforming Community

by Mark Lauterbach

Taught by Seth Still & Jason Krutz in West Hall Sunday School Room

Jesus, in his ministry, received the empty, the broken, the lost and the diseased. Mark Lauterbach in "The Transforming Community: The Practice of the Gospel in Church Discipline" shows how compassion, mediated through a functioning body of believers, provides the answers to human waywardness and maintains the integrity of the church. Although this is a book about church discipline, it is really about a spirit-empowered community. The class will discuss situations from Mr. Lauterbach's experience to help us turn principles into practice.
