Participating in the Easter Story

Michael Hart on April 21, 2011

It was the custom of the early church to reenact the events of holy week, with the purpose that they might all the more relive and participate in the death and resurrection of Jesus.  Romans 6 reminds us that His death also means that we die in a real way with current implications. His resurrection means that we also live with newness of life.  Below are brief explanations of the main events with suggestions on how to prepare both you and your family for these days, so that we might all the more experience what it means to abide day...

Preparing Our Hearts for Worship

Michael Hart on January 7, 2011

WHY:  I am often astonished at the disconnect between the glory of God in worship and the heart I bring into worship.  I relate to John Owen when he said, “What poor thoughts have men of God and his ways, who think there lies an acceptable glory and beauty in a little plant and varnish!”  In our words, how easy it is to come to church thinking more of the gardening needed to be done or the lunch needed to be prepared!    David knew this disconnect, knowing his heart was prone to wonder, even having his worst of rebellion...

Knowlege and Mac&Cheese

Michael Hart on May 5, 2009 Comments (2)

Kinkos was a perfect place to study in seminary because of its late hours and convenient vending machine, of which I took advantage on one particularly strenuous week of studying.  It was mid-term testing and I needed to know a lot of Colossians for a Greek class, so I studied God’s Word in the original language for hours up at Kinkos that week, just me and my vending machine.    I did fairly well on the written test that Thursday, but I failed another type of test that week. It was the test on “The Goal of Knowledge.” See, I finished...
